Thales continued to develop its international development strategy in 2014, strengthening its position in Europe and accentuating its efforts to respond to the demand of emerging countries. Thales positioning in three new countries
The year started in Japan when Thales was selected by the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) to launch a signaling system SelTrac CBTC® on the Joban line in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Thales has become the first non-Japanese company to enter the Japanese signage market!
In Central Asia, Thales won its first transport contract in Azerbaijan, and will modernize signage, monitoring and telecommunications of the Baku subway (phase 1 of the Purple Line).
In the field of big lines, in Nigeria, Thales won its first transport contract with an integrated signaling and telecommunications solution for the future 330 kilometer line that will link the Itapké industrial region with Warri, one of the country's main ports.
Excellent year in China for urban transport
In China, the local joint venture Thales SAIC Transportation System has won 6 subway signaling contracts in 2014. Likewise, the company will deliver the SelTrac CBTC solution to the subways of Hefei, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Guangzhou and Shanghai. In Guangzhou, the contract for the 14-kilometer lines 21 and 138 represents the longest mileage ever signed in a transportation contract in China. Thales SAIC has also won the contract to provide the SelTrac® system for the railway connection ’s relationship with the airport in Nanjing on the occasion of the Youth Olympic Games in August 2014.
Development of Latin American metro lines
Thales' contribution to the development of public transportation in America keep going. In Brazil, Thales' CBTC solution will equip two lines of the future Salvador de Bahia metro Meanwhile he Sao Paulo metro have selected the telecommunication systems from Thales for line 17.
In Chile, Thales has won a contract with the Santiago metro to provide an operational control center on two lines, and the migration of the SCADA energy management system to improve the Energy Efficiency throughout the network.

India: success in the metro and positioning on major lines
In India, Thales will equip the 79 new stations of Phase III of the Delhi Metro, which extends over 100 kilometers, with a complete ticketing solution with 900 access points. Thales has also won the ticket for phase 2 of the Gurgaon metro that links to the Delhi metro. On major lines, Thales has secured its first ETCS level 1 contract to improve the Basin Bridge-Arakkonam section for India's Southern Railway company in the south of the country as the first stage of the modernization program from the Indian operator.
Europe: modernization of major lines continues

In the United Kingdom, Network Rail has initiated an extensive plan to modernize the traffic management system of large lines with 12 regional operations centers, and Thales has been selected to equip the first 2, in Romford and Cardiff, with the NetTrac Aramis solution.
Thales has obtained numerous signaling maintenance contracts for large lines in Portugal (REFER), Spain (ADIF) and Turkey (TCDD). In it ticket field, Thales is going to maintain more than 1.000 access points for the Dutch operator NS.
In addition, the activity of large lines is completed with other contracts to provide electronic interlock systems LockTrac in France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Norway, etc.
France: Thales returns to urban transport
This year, Thales has signed numerous contracts in France for ticketing and security. In Paris, Thales will equip more than 1.000 buses and trams with its new on-board video protection solution. SNCF has signed a contract with Thales to replace the Vitry-sur-Seine switch control center with one electronic interlock solution that allows an optimal level of safety and increases the number of trains in circulation on the line. In Lyon, Thales will modernize the network public transport for the city and its suburbs for Sytral. The Group participates in the evolution of the infrastructure of existing radio in the network as well as in the renewal of the operation assistance and traveler information system by equipping the bus fleet.
Training for local talents in Egypt and UAE
Within the framework of knowledge transfer in all domains of expertise, Thales will create paths railway academies in Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. These training schools will have training programs theoretical and professional training that will complement existing programs in the transportation fields.
