Studying Perspectives of the Aragonese Economy, promoted by the initiative ARIES Aragón Business Boost, in collaboration between Aragon Chambers and the Government of Aragon, has revealed that the region will continue its path of economic growth in 2025. The presentation of the report, by Jose Miguel Sanchez, general director of the Zaragoza Chamber, and Marcos Sanso, professor of the University of Zaragoza and director of the study, has highlighted the resilience of the Aragonese economy in the face of global challenges.
“Despite the headwinds internationally, Aragon is demonstrating once again its capacity to maintain sustained growth,” stated José Miguel Sánchez during the presentation. “This is the result of the combined efforts of our companies and the solid economic base of the region«.
Marcos Sanso, for his part, warned about the risks posed by the international context. protectionist policies and geopolitical uncertainty "These are factors that could affect our forecasts," Sanso noted. "It is crucial that Aragonese companies remain vigilant and adapt their strategies to mitigate the impact of these pressures."
The outlook, although positive, is not without challenges, with persistent inflation and international trade tensions being the main concerns.
The Aragonese labor market also shows signs of strength, with an unemployment rate expected to remain below 7% in 2025, consolidating Aragon as one of the autonomous communities with the lowest unemployment in Spain. This performance is supported by the recent historic records for employment and Social Security affiliation.
However, Inflation continues to be a point of concern. In February 2025, both in Aragon and in Spain as a whole, inflation remains one point above the target of 2%, also exceeding the average of the European Union.
The report also addresses the impact of «shock Trump"referring to the protectionist policies implemented by the recent US presidential administration. These measures, along with geopolitical uncertainty, have generated instability in the global economy, with warnings of possible recessions in the United States and their subsequent repercussions in Europe."
Despite these challenges, forecasting models indicate that the Aragonese economy will grow by 2.4% in 2025 and 2% in 2026, maintaining a similar trajectory to that of Spain as a whole. Regarding employment, the unemployment rate in Aragon is expected to fall to 6.8% in 2025, although it could rise to 8% in 2026, following the national trend.
The resilience of the Aragonese economy is attributed to its solid foundation and the ability of its key sectors, such as the automotive industry, to adapt to changes in international trade.
