The British Council has launched the second call for applications for the Springboard Grants, a UK government-funded program offering up to £10.000 per project to foster joint research between institutions in Spain and the UK. Applications will be accepted until September 30, 2026.

Key aspects of the call for proposals: Promoting bilateral research
Framed within the program Going Global PartnershipsThis initiative is aimed at higher education institutions and non-profit research centers in EspañaThe aim is to provide funding for research across a wide range of disciplines, from medicine and biology to social sciences, arts, humanities, physics, chemistry, and environmental sciences. The purpose of this funding is to enable research teams to share knowledge, foster mutual learning, and lay the groundwork for larger-scale collaborations.
One of the strategic objectives of the scholarships is to serve as a catalyst for institutions to submit joint applications to larger international funding programs, such as Horizon Europe, in addition to promoting the publication of co-authored scientific articles.

The deadline for submitting applications is September 30, 2026. The interested Spanish institution must coordinate with its British counterpart, which will be responsible for processing the application and managing the funds.

A boost to mobility and emerging talent
The program promoted by the British Council It is designed to facilitate the international mobility of the teams. The funds will allow for the organization of in-person working meetings and short stays at associated research centers. In addition, the grants place a specific focus on supporting researchers in the early stages of their careers (Early Career Researchers), as doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers, thus fostering the new generation of scientific talent.

Success of the first edition: 36 institutions already collaborating
The first call for applications for the Scholarships Springboard en España This resulted in the selection of 18 collaborative projects, involving a total of 36 universities and research centers (18 from each country). These programs, which began in January 2026 and will run until March 2027, address lines of work aligned with shared priorities such as health, sustainability, and digitalization.
