The meeting, in which about 60 entrepreneurs and companies, has been chaired by the president of CEN, Juan Miguel Sucunza, who has highlighted the economic power of United Kingdom as the sixth world economy. Furthermore, he has valued the positive evolution of Navarrese exports to a country that “combines tradition and modernity.”

During his speech, the British ambassador, Hugh elliott, has given a few glimpses of the current situation in the United Kingdom and where the country is going in economic matters. In this regard, Hugh Elliott has addressed the current priorities for the UK economy: halving inflation by the end of 2023; reduce debt; and maintain industrial investments towards a green economy.

Furthermore, the Ambassador has focused on the current relationship of trade and investments between Navarra and the United Kingdom, highlighting the sectors that currently offer the most opportunities between the two.

In this context, the automotive industry, especially everything related to electric mobility, has stood out as sectors with “good prospects”; renewables, especially offshore wind; the agri-food and biomedical sectors.

The British ambassador, Hugh Elliott, has highlighted the automotive, renewable and agri-food sectors as those that offer the most opportunities for Navarrese companies in the United Kingdom.

During the colloquium, the Ambassador insisted that the United Kingdom “It is a country open to investment and trade” although he has recognized that the bilateral relationship is more complicated after the Brexit.

At the end, the participating businessmen and companies had the opportunity to ask several questions that focused, among other aspects, on the impact of illegal emigration on the transportation sector; the British strategy on the aerospace sector; measures to avoid non-compliance with installment payments to SMEs; and the recommendations so that Navarrese companies can access the United Kingdom market.

The business meeting between the CEN and the British ambassador has served to bring investment opportunities and commercial activity between Navarra and the United Kingdom closer. The ambassador has recognized the difficulties posed by the bilateral relationship after Brexit, but has insisted that The United Kingdom is a country open to investment and trade.
