The Barcelona Free Trade Zone Consortium (CZFB) has become one of the main players at SCEWC 2025, held at Fira de Barcelona from November 4th to 6th, presenting its vision for the future through District 4.0 . This project aims to position Barcelona at the forefront of industrial digital transformation , with DFactory Barcelona serving as the nerve center of this initiative.
The presentation of the details of DFactory's expansion took place with the presence of the State's Special Delegate to the CZFB, Pere Navarro , and the CZFB's General Director, Blanca Sorigué , who brought together companies and startups from the Industry 4.0 ecosystem. A model of the expansion, which entails an approximate investment of 50 million euros , was presented.
The State's special delegate to the CZFB, Pere Navarro, highlighted the project's success and the need for expansion: "We have great news: DFactory Barcelona is now fully occupied . This means there is demand and that it is useful for these Industry 4.0 companies located in DFactory, providing them with a benchmark location. A global and world-renowned benchmark for Industry 4.0 ."
Navarro explained that the expansion phase, which consists of four new buildings , will be completed by the end of 2026 and it is expected that the new companies will be able to locate there at the beginning of 2027.
Four new buildings for the 4.0 ecosystem
The expansion of DFactory, which will grow from the current 17.000 m² to a total of 60.000 m², will take the form of several structures:
Cub Building (1.100 m²): Designed to host major cultural, artistic, and musical events , as well as international gatherings related to Industry 4.0 and the new economy. Building A (24.370 m²) and Building B (11.640 m²): Both will have four floors (a ground floor for manufacturing and three floors for laboratories, technology centers, and offices ). These spaces aim to attract companies specializing in robotics, advanced manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence (AI) , IoT, Blockchain , and also the health and agricultural technology sectors . Building D (2.300 m²): Dedicated to providing services for the companies located there, including a restaurant and spaces for physical activity.
The CEO of the CZFB, Blanca Sorigué, expressed the ambition of the initiative: “We want to be the 4.0 District not only of Barcelona, but of the world . We have fertile ground to become a global benchmark because Barcelona is a city connected to the world, that creates and attracts talent, with a great entrepreneurial ecosystem… All the conditions are in place to lead the digital transformation of industry and attract large corporations that invest in technology. This is already happening in District 4.0.”
The CZFB's presence at SCEWC 2025 not only serves to showcase its progress but also aims to foster synergies and collaborative networks. The program includes demonstrations from companies located in District 4.0, DFactory Barcelona, and the Logistics 4.0 Incubator , as well as networking activities to strengthen ties and generate international business opportunities.
