Antonio Olivera and Pedro Ortega analyzed the future implementation of new promotional actions that allow the Canary Islands to continue advancing in the internationalization of the economy.
El president of the Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC), Antonio Olivera, as well as the Minister of Economy, Industry, Commerce and Knowledge of the Government of the Canary Islands, Pedro Ortega, analyzed the future implementation of new promotional actions that allow Canary Islands continue advancing in the internationalization of the economy, through the capture of new foreign investments coming mainly from the British and Chinese markets. Also participating in the meeting was Vice President of Economy and Economic Affairs with the European Union, Ildefonso Socorro.
Olive He pointed out that complementary planning has been proposed that is included in the entity's Action Plan, the latter has a multi-year programming framework 2014-2020 in accordance with the validity of the European Union (EU) Guidelines on state aid for regional purposes. The president of the ZEC pointed out that this planning pursues a double purpose: on the one hand, the attraction of investments derived from the Brexit, and on the other, the prospecting of chinese market.
Specifically, Corporate y ZEC agreed on the opportunity offered by the current process of Brexit to try to attract new investment projects from companies located in United Kingdom who seek to stay within the European Union (EU), taking advantage of the competitive advantages offered by the low tax incentive to companies.
Likewise, both departments agree to undertake new actions that help open the Chinese market through, for example, the organization of prospecting missions for companies from the Asian country to Canary Islands.
Pedro Ortega highlighted the good results that have been obtained in the last four years in which the total productive investment in Canary Islands has increased progressively, going from 87,7 million euros of gross productive investment in 2015 to more than 173 million euros registered in 2018.
Results that, as he explained, “are a direct consequence of the implementation of the approval of the Operational Strategy for the Internationalization of the Canary Islands Economy 2016-2020 and the effort that Canary Islands Government, in collaboration with the rest of the entities and organizations involved in the expansion of the Canary Islands economy, has carried out throughout the legislature to expand new markets and publicize the opportunities that the Canary Islands offer as a logistics center for international business.
