It proposes the construction of a competitive production model
The Chamber makes an institutional declaration in favor of free trade.
La Chamber of Spain has issued an institutional statement expressing its support for free tradeIn that regard, the institution points out that the foreign sector, to which so many companies have directed their attention and efforts in times of crisis, has played a key role in economic growth, progress, prosperity and the well-being of Spaniards.
“Our companies,” the statement specifies, “have always known how to respond to the opening process and the challenge posed by the injection of external competition that accompanied liberalization, but also by the opening of foreign markets that was achieved in return. Several thousand SMEs have gone abroad in recent years, trying to find the demand they couldn't find in our market. The vast majority have passed the test and have gone on to grow our workforce.” export base".
The Chamber refers to the fact that not only has the record just been broken merchandise exports in 2016, but this is also achieved in and in others servicesA very positive performance when compared to that of the main European partners and in a less than favorable environment.
“Today we have a significant group of firms already strongly internationalized the trade and investment, the spearhead of our international business presence, which hold world-leading positions in different sectors and whose international activity represents an ever-increasing proportion of their revenue and profits. This reflects the favorable evolution of our production model, which is becoming increasingly integrated into the global market, and of our growth model, which is becoming increasingly robust and diversified.”
The Chamber believes it is essential to have an open global market, accessible to Spanish companies, and especially SMEs, with their goods, services and capital.
“The potential is still enormous, as we have a large number of competitive companies that have not yet made the leap abroad. And not only to our natural market of the European Union“But we must export to the countries that will grow the fastest in the coming years, such as emerging economies. We must export to all of them the high value-added goods and services that we are capable of producing, not trying to compete with low-cost exporters, but competing among the best,” the Declaration states.
Therefore, the Chamber considers it a requirement to have a open global market, which Spanish companies, and especially SMEs, can access with their goods, services and capital.
La Chamber of Commerce of Spain He believes that erecting new barriers that hinder or prevent companies from further advancing their global positioning would be highly detrimental. “We must be vigilant and prevent any setbacks in the long process of trade liberalization that has been achieved with such effort and dedication in recent years. In such an integrated, now global, market, imposing barriers in any major market would not only disrupt numerous international value chains but also provoke retaliation from trading partners, generating a spiral of unpredictable scope and consequences,” he notes.
Chambers of Commerce of Spain They propose to make evident and public, once again, their commitment to free, fair and inclusive trade under clear and shared rules, as a necessary framework to continue advancing in the process of building a competitive production model that generates greater growth, quality employment and well-being for Spanish citizens.
