La fruit and vegetable export Spanish to the European Union has experienced significant growth during the first ten months of 2024. With a total of 8,3 million tonnes shipped and a value of €11.626 billion, the EU represents 84% of the total volume exported by Spain in this sector. This increase represents an improvement of 10% in volume and 6% in value compared to the same period of the previous year.
Germany, It stands out as the main market within the EU for Spanish fresh fruit and vegetables, with a total shipment of 2,7 million tonnes, representing an increase of 12% compared to the previous year. The economic value associated with these exports reached 4.158 million euros, increasing by 6%.
France and Netherlands have also shown significant growth, consolidating themselves as the second and third markets respectively for Spain within the European bloc. Exports to France increased by 9% in volume and 4% in value, while to the Netherlands they grew by 6% in volume and barely 1% in value.
Outside the community sphere, the United Kingdom It remains the main non-EU destination for Spanish exports, with sales reaching one million tonnes, reflecting a 6% increase over the previous period, for a total value of 1.748 million euros, which represents an improvement of 8%.
On the whole, Europe absorbs the bulk of Spanish fruit and vegetable exports with a representation of 97 % on the total during the first ten months of last year, thus adding 9,6 million tons shipped and generating income from 13.864 million euros.
Shipments outside the European continent remain stable, representing only 3% remaining, with 285.839 tonnes sent for an approximate economic value of 415 million euros according to data provided by the Customs and Excise Department processed by FEPEX.
This trend reflects not only the competitive strength of the Spanish fruit and vegetable sector but also its ability to adapt to growing demands within and outside the European continent.
