The German Chamber appoints Carles Navarro, general director of BASF Española, new vice president

Following his appointment as vice president, Carles Navarro will share duties with Agustín Escobar, president and CEO of Siemens Spain.

More than a hundred members of the German Chamber of Commerce for Spain They met at their headquarters in Madrid to celebrate the AssemblyOrdinary and Extraordinary General Meeting of Partners. Within the framework of this event, the composition of the new Board of Directors, with Carles navarro, general director of BASF Española, as new vice president.

 

Navarro, with a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Institut Químic de Sarrià (IQS) and a master's degree in Marketing Management from ESADE, has directed BASF Española since March 2016. He has extensive experience in the chemical sector, having previously held positions as president of BASF Canada, commercial director for Spain and Portugal, and head of the Elastogran subsidiary in Türkiye. In addition, he has been vice president of the German Chamber and president of the Business Federation of the Chemical Industry (feique).

 

“It is an honor to once again serve the Chamber's member companies from its Board of Directors,” Navarro stated. “This is a crucial moment for the European economy in general, and for Spain and Germany in particular. The German Chamber plays a key role in defending the competitiveness of companies before their stakeholders. It will be a challenge to fight for this,” he added.

Renewed Board of Directors

 

Navarro will share the duties of the vice presidency with Agustin Escobar, president and CEO of Siemens Spain, who assumed the position last year. Together with them, the General Assembly has agreed to renew Osmar Polo as president of the institution, and has welcomed new members to the Board of Directors:

  • Jaume Cané, CEO of Freudenberg Spain
  • Manuel Lavín, CEO of GFT IT Consulting
  • Matilde Torquemada, CEO of DB Schenker Iberia
  • Birgit Zondler, Managing Director of GEZE Iberia

 

Likewise, the Assembly has approved the re-election of other prominent members, such as Claus Grande, general director of Lidl Spain; Neus Mas, CEO of Unex Electrical Appliances; Jorge Masalles, CEO of Commerzbank AG Spain; Francisco Pérez Botello, CEO of Volkswagen Group Spain Distribution; Montse Planas, Managing Director Spain of Fresenius Kabi; and Raúl Sanguino, CEO of TÜV SÜD Spain & Portugal.

During the General Assembly, Osmar Polo and Walther von Plettenberg, president and managing director of the Chamber respectively, highlighted some of the main milestones achieved in commercial relations between Spain and Germany in the last year. They also reviewed the activities of the Chamber within the framework of its annual thematic axis 'Talent. Training. Employment'.

 

The General Assembly concluded with the round table 'Current Climate and Expectations Spring 2024', in which the results of the spring AHK Barometer were analyzed and the economic expectations of the participating companies were shared.
