The Madrid Book Fair unveils its Ibero-American Pavilion to strengthen ties and promote the Spanish language

The 84th edition of the Madrid Book Fair, which is held from May 30 to June 15, has inaugurated a significant novelty: the Ibero-American Pavilion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and CooperationThis new space seeks to promote the Ibero-American community through literature and strengthen Spanish foreign policy, in view of the Ibero-American Summit in Madrid in 2026.

The pavilion is born with a triple mission: Strengthen the ties of the Ibero-American community around literature, consolidate Spanish foreign policy by promoting Spanish, and serve as a platform for visibility for activities leading up to the aforementioned summit.

The inauguration of the Book Fair had the notable presence of Her Majesty Queen Letizia, who visited the Ibero-American Pavilion. She was accompanied by important figures such as the Ibero-American Secretary General (SEGIB), Andrew Allamand; the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasún, and the Secretary of State for Ibero-America and the Caribbean and Spanish in the World, Susana Sumelzo.

The Ibero-American Pavilion aims to become a central forum for dialogue on the major issues that affect the Ibero-American publishing worldAmong its main objectives are the promotion of Spanish and Portuguese in the scientific field, as well as the discussion of the central themes of this year's Book Fair: Migration, Language, Identities and Freedom of Expression.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation has underlined the strategic importance of this new space. They state that Ibero-American Pavilion "It is a strategic commitment to position Spanish and Portuguese as languages of creation, science and culture, and strengthens the links between Ibero-American countries within the framework of one of the most important literary events in the world."
