The Community of Madrid held a strategic meeting with representatives of the US audiovisual industry to explore new avenues for collaboration. The goal is to solidify the region's position as a key hub for international filming and productions.
The international competitiveness of the Madrid economy continues to expand into new high value-added sectors. This time, the focus is on... audiovisual industry, an economic engine that has motivated the holding of the professional forum Madrid-USA: Strategic alliances for the future of the audiovisual sectorThis meeting has served as a bridge to explore new opportunities for business collaboration e foreign investment between local production companies and the giants of American entertainment.
The event, jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sport and the American Chamber of Commerce in Spain (AmChamSpain)The event, held at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, brought together key players in the sector. The central objective of the discussion panels was to design strategies for the attraction of international productions, to promote the development of Spanish-American co-productions and modernize the logistics and post-production infrastructure in the region.
During the closing ceremony, Mariano de Paco Serrano, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sport, directly linked these international initiatives with the new Strategic Plan for the Audiovisual Industry promoted by the regional government:
“This initiative, endowed with 40 million euros until 2029It is aimed at improving the competitiveness and international projection of the Madrid sector, promoting its growth and strengthening its contribution to our economy.”
A sector that boosts GDP and skilled employment
The figures support the strategy of Capabilities of the sector in the region. In 2025, the Community of Madrid registered more than 2.100 shoots, which is a increase of 10% year-on-year. This dynamism has allowed it to attract the filming of global blockbusters, such as the film Day Drinker —filmed in municipalities such as Boadilla del Monte, Villamanta and San Lorenzo de El Escorial with stars such as Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz—, or the fourth season of the successful American series The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
From a macroeconomic point of view, the audiovisual industry is already a solid pillar that contributes to the 2,6% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from Madrid. The business fabric is made up of 3.500 companies that hold more than 29.700 direct jobsThis volume of business, combined with tax and logistical advantages and a highly diversified ecosystem (which includes advanced animation and visual effects studios), positions the region as a very competitive investment destination compared to other established European capitals in this market, such as Paris, Berlin or Rome.
The forum included analysis from experts in international business development and audiovisual management, highlighting the interventions of Luis Socías, executive director of Invest in MadridXiomara García, general coordinator of Film Madrid Region; and senior executives of US multinationals such as María Contreras (MGM Studios Spain) and Sofía Fábregas (The Walt Disney CompanyThey all agreed on the need to continue protecting and incentivizing this ecosystem to maintain the path of growth in the audiovisual services trade.
