At its meeting on December 17, 2024, the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Santander (APS) approved several key projects aimed at strengthening the port's infrastructure. Among the approved initiatives is the provision of automated equipment for border crossings, essential for implementing the European Entry/Exit System (EES) and the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) . This project includes the acquisition and installation of individual booths, automatic doors, and verification tablets, with a base tender budget of €7.031.806.
In addition, a contract has been authorized for auxiliary staff who will assist the National Police in providing information to international passengers. This contract has a base budget of €2.991.608 and a planned duration of three years.
On the other hand, a significant expansion of the container terminal managed by Boluda NSCT Investments has been approved , increasing its operational area by an additional 10.422 m² . According to César Díaz, president of APS : “The terminal’s excellent traffic figures are proof of our firm commitment to Cantabria.” This expansion aims to consolidate the port as a competitive logistics platform.
The Council has also ratified an agreement with the local council to renew controls at nearby docks and extended existing concessions as part of the continued development of the port.
Finally, a favorable ruling by the High Court was highlighted, which allows the resumption of works previously halted due to environmental issues, ensuring that they do not affect protected habitats according to current regulations.
These decisions reflect a sustained commitment by the APS towards European regulatory compliance and regional logistics strengthening, positioning the Port of Santander as a strategic hub in international maritime trade.
