The Port of Bilbao will showcase its experience in project cargo at the Houston fair

The Port of Bilbao, together with cargo companies such as Gamesa, will actively participate in the Breakbulk Americas 2015 fair in Houston, which will be held from 6 to 8 October.

In addition to their presence at Stand N1515, the port representatives will hold meetings already arranged with North American shippers, who will be informed about the different lines Transoceanic Breakbulk currently operating in Direct connection Bilbao-Houston and which contribute, among other things, to positioning the Bilbao harbour as a reference hub for breakbulk and project cargo, one of the largest logistics and intermodal centres in the Atlantic corridor.

 

 

As the central event of this business trip, the Port Authority has organised a seminar, which will be followed by a business dinner, in which its President, Asier Atutxa, and the Director of Operations, Commercial and Logistics, Luis Gabiola, will take part; the Director of Logistics of Gamesa, Iñaki Iriarte; and the head of commercial development of the Port of Houston, Ricardo Arias. Companies from the logistics, industrial projects, energy and iron and steel sectors will attend the meeting.

 

Rising traffic and new facilities

In 2014, project cargoes grew by 36% at the Port of Bilbao, whose operators offer a specialized and agile service.

 

Bilbao presents itself as a port with quick and easy access by road and rail between the Iberian Peninsula and the south of France.

 

In addition, the development of new port areas that began in 1991 offers new terminals and surfaces for industrial installations.

 

Last year, Gamesa, one of the leading global technology companies in the global wind industry, installed a loading, unloading and storage centre for large goods, such as auxiliary structures and main components for the wind industry, at its docks.

 

For its part, Lointek, a capital goods company from Biscay, has built a production plant this year in the Port of Bilbao to be more competitive and expand markets. This facility will allow it to produce equipment that exceeds 1000 tons empty, up to 12 meters in diameter and a minimum length of 50 meters.
