El port of Santander The total traffic in 2024 was 7.154.185 tonnes, representing an increase of 2,4% compared to the previous year. This advance establishes a new historical record for the second consecutive year, according to the president of the Port Authority of Santander (APS), Cesar Diaz, during a joint presentation with the Minister of Industry and Vice President of the Port, Eduardo Arasti.
Díaz described these results as “excellent” and highlighted that both the number of containers and ferry traffic have reached unprecedented levels. “It now accounts for more than half of the Port’s traffic,” said Díaz, referring to general cargo, which has grown by 24% compared to 2023.
In economic terms, the APS closed 2024 with a provisional turnover of 26,5 million euros, an increase of 5,81% compared to the previous year. The financial result also showed a significant improvement, reaching more than 5,2 million euros, representing a growth of 29,5% compared to 2023.
Councillor Arasti stressed that "the good results of the port also affect other parameters such as exports”, which grew by 2,4%, exceeding the national average. He also mentioned the agreement with the Spanish Government to develop the railway intermodal in La Pasiega as “good news for the Port”.
Looking ahead, Diaz emphasized the importance of 2030 Strategic Plan which is being drawn up to guide the future development of the port. This plan will be presented shortly and seeks to broaden the strategic vision of the Port to attract new traffic and customers.
The Port Authority plans to continue its investment efforts within the framework of the 2024-2028 Investment Plan to further improve its competitiveness and be prepared to receive new traffic and customers through efficient management of available space.
