Nordquist brings decades of experience to the multilateral organization. She currently serves as an advisor to the White House Council of Economic Advisers. Her resume includes key roles as executive vice president of the Economic Innovation Group, senior advisor at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, executive director for the United States of World Bank Group, and chief of staff and associate for economic studies at the Brookings Institution.
The new Deputy General Manager holds a Master's degree in Journalism from Northwestern University and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Communications from Stanford University. She is a native English speaker and fluent in French.
In announcing the appointment, Director-General Okonjo-Iweala emphasized the value of Nordquist's experience. "She will work as part of the senior management team with me and the other Deputy Directors-General, advancing our goal of helping our members use trade as a means to raise living standards, create jobs, and improve people's lives," Okonjo-Iweala stated.
This appointment follows the recent re-election of the Director General Okonjo-Iweala for a second four-year term, starting on 1 September 2024. In addition, current Deputy Directors-General Johanna Hill (El Salvador), Jean-Marie Paugam (France) and Xiangchen Zhang (China) have been re-elected for a further four-year term, ensuring continuity in the organization's leadership.
