The corrugated cardboard industry in Spain: a sustainable giant with record figures in 2024

 

El Sector Figures Report 2024, presented by AFCO (Spanish Association of Corrugated Cardboard Packaging Manufacturers) reveals an encouraging outlook for the cardboard industry in Spain. The data reflect a sector in constant evolution, which has been able to adapt to market demands and environmental challenges.

 

“This report reflects the strength of our sector. With figures that demonstrate consistent activity, an essential role in the supply chain, and our commitment to efficient and sustainable processes and solutions, adapting to market demands. With 64 corrugating companies and 86 factories distributed throughout Spain, the sector is positioned as the third largest producer of corrugated cardboard in Europe, only behind Italy and GermanyThis solid infrastructure allows the sector to meet the demand of a wide range of industries, with the food industry being its main client, with 60% of total consumption.

 

"Corrugated cardboard packaging not only protects products and optimizes transport and logistics processes, but it is also a communication and branding tool, thanks to its endless possibilities for customization and printing," says Santorromán.

 

Commitment to sustainability is another of the fundamental pillars of the corrugated cardboard industry in Spain. Thanks to its renewable origin and its biodegradable and recyclable end of life, cardboard has established itself as the most responsible packaging option. The sector has an efficient recovery and recycling system, with a rate of 90%, the highest of all materials in Europe, which turns each used container into a resource for manufacturing new ones.
