The private sector ratifies its commitment to the 2030 Agenda, at the Sustainable Development Word Global Business Forum, in New York

The general objective of the meeting was to analyze mechanisms that allow the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for the 2030 Agenda.

Maria Paz Jervis, Pro Tempore president of the Ibero-American Business Council (CEIB), President of the Federation of National Chambers of Ecuador (FNCIE) and Executive President of the Chamber of Industries and Production (CIP) participated on July 17 and 18, 2023 in the Sustainable Development Word (SDG) Global Business Forum, in New York. 

 

Jervis represented the Ecuador in a meeting with Global Compact and other representatives of the private sector Fiji and Portugal to analyze the challenges and opportunities for achieving sustainable development in the region. "Due to its scope and impact on the different realities of Latin America"Business organizations can channel initiatives that accelerate the achievement of the SDGs," he said.

 

Jervis, on behalf of Ibero-American companies, concluded that for there to be comprehensive solutions in a region as large as it is diverse, there must be a synergy between the public and private sectors to solve problems from each sphere and achieve the SDGs.

 

The day also included a panel between the International Organization of Employers (OIE) and Deloitte. The Pro Tempore president of the CEIB issued the conclusions of the meeting focusing on the SDG 9 and 17 who seek to build resilient infrastructure and partnerships to achieve sustainable development. In his closing statement, Jervis emphasized that “crises cannot be resolved solely by governments. The private sector has the responsibility and creativity to solve problems in a Latin America as large as it is diverse. We must all push forward, lead change, and achieve the SDGs.”

 

Within the Global Business Forum, Jervis participated in the segment: “Just zero carbon transition for nature”. In this space, he highlighted that the private sector has joined forces to guarantee a solid commitment that aims at sustainable development hand in hand with the economic growth of the region. He took the opportunity to remember the commitment to investment that the CEIB delivered, within the framework of the Ibero-American Business Meeting and the Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government.
