Tubos Reunidos Group, In collaboration with nortegas and a consortium of Basque companies, is at the forefront of the energy transition with the development of innovative tubes designed for the distribution of pure hydrogen. This ambitious project, called H2Bidea, has the support of the Basque Government and the European Union, and seeks to establish key infrastructure for industrial decarbonization.
In an effort to drive the decarbonization of the industry, Tubos Reunidos Group has taken a significant step in its sustainability strategy. After establishing itself as the world's first producer to manufacture seamless pipes with net-zero emissions, the company is now focusing on developing pipes capable of distributing hydrogen, an essential energy source for the transition to a clean energy model.
The H2Bidea project, led by Nortegas, brings together a Basque business consortium that includes Arizaga, Bastarrica and Company (ABC Compressors), Orkli, Electronic Applications Sales (Fidegas) and Calcinor Services. This initiative is part of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor BH2C and has the support of the program Hazitek of the Basque Government and the European Union.
H2Bidea's core strategy is centered on the end user, recognizing that the growth of the hydrogen economy will depend on consumption. Therefore, developing solutions for hydrogen transportation and availability is crucial. Currently, the lack of distribution networks for pure hydrogen represents a significant obstacle. Infrastructure thus becomes a strategic element for safely connecting generation and consumption, facilitating the evaluation of green hydrogen projects.
Jon BikandiBikandi, R&D Director of Tubos Reunidos Group, highlighted the company's commitment to sustainability: "We are immersed in a continuous improvement process that involves the entire organization to make our processes and products more sustainable." Bikandi emphasized the launch of Onext, the first zero-emission seamless pipe on the market, and announced the development of carbon steel pipes for the distribution of 100% hydrogen at pressures up to 160 bar. "With these projects, we demonstrate that it is possible to reduce the carbon footprint of our products and, at the same time, be a driving force in the decarbonization of industry, achieving a green value chain for companies," he stated.
The H2Bidea project, which began in 2024 and will run for almost three years, will culminate in the creation of the 100% hydrogen distribution network demonstrator. H2TESTLABThis dynamic circuit will allow the evaluation of the endurance of components developed to operate with pure hydrogen.
