TYPSA continues to support the strategic role of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) in establishing guidelines to ensure that dams are designed, built and operated safely and are sustainable and environmentally equitable, amidst the transition energy and climate change.

In this context TYPSA has participated, with professionals from Madrid and Sweden, in the 91st Annual Meeting of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) held in Gothenburg (Sweden) from June 10 to 15, organized by the Swedish National Committee for Large Dams (SwedCOLD). Manuel G. de Membrillera was part of the expert panel during the workshop on defect detection in loose material dams and shared some practical cases related to the detection of internal erosion and monitoring of dams. This workshop was organized by Sam Johansson of HydroResearch and Peter Viklander of Vattenfall, as part of the events organized by SwedCOLD.
He also chaired the ICOLD Dam Monitoring Technical Committee meeting, which brought together 58 professionals from around the world to share lessons learned and experiences on various topics related to dam safety and monitoring. Topics were addressed such as fully injected piezometers, dynamic control technology by environmental auscultation (AVM), the durability of sensors in automated systems, monitoring and surveillance of the Itaipú dam, InSAR for dam monitoring, several cases of the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), PolSAR technology capabilities for detecting leaks, seismic geophysical campaigns, development of a technical bulletin on risk-based monitoring of tailings dams (mining) and a bulletin dedicated to monitoring/monitoring of spillways.
The Swedish subsidiary, TYPSA AB, also participated in the symposium on safe dam management. Francisco Ríos Bayona who led, together with CIMNE professionals, a presentation on the application of predictive models of Machine Learning for the dams of the Catalan Water Agency, based on an article written by Ferdinand Salazar (CIMNE), Carlos Barbero and Xavier Fernández (ACA), in addition to Marc Gil and Manuel G. de Membrillera from TYPSA. The objective of the symposium is to share real cases in different countries, technologies and innovations to increase the safety of dams and motas along with their benefits.
