Ukraine needs help for its logistical and port reconstruction and counts on Valenciaport

Oleksandr Nosenko, delegate in Valencia of the Odessa Region (Ukraine) and Serhii Bychkov, mayor of the port city of Ochakiv, have held a meeting with Federico Torres and Miguel Garín, representatives of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV) and of the Valenciaport Foundation (FV) respectively, to request the collaboration of Valenciaport in the future reconstruction of the country.

The two representatives of the Ukrainian port areas have been accompanied by Paul Gil (Honorary Consul of Ukraine in the Valencian Community); Eleonora Vatral (Honorary Consulate Coordinator); and Oleg Grabovetskyy, Consul of Economic Affairs of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Barcelona.

As Joan Calabuig, president of Valenciaport, points out, “the reconstruction of Ukraine is a challenge for Europe, as it will be essential to reactivating its economic activity and social development. This issue will be a priority for Europe and all its institutions.”

The meeting took place at the request of the Ukrainian representation given the needs for permanent reconstruction of the logistical and port infrastructures of this region that is connected by sea through the ports of Odessa and Ochakiv. Needs that are estimated to be enormous when the conflict comes to an end, for which no one currently dares to set a date. When this situation occurs, representatives of one of the world's main grain exporters explained that their country will need to rebuild port facilities, cranes, accesses, bridges, etc. And not only infrastructure, “it will also be urgent to train logistics technicians in all types of specialties; Hence the importance of establishing communication channels with Valenciaport, one of the major reference ports in Europe to, when possible, begin to collaborate,” they explained from the Ukrainian representation.
