VSME: EU-recommended sustainability reporting standard for SMEs

The Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Madrid will hold the online workshop on February 17, 2026, from 10:00 to 12:00. “VSME: EU-recommended sustainability reporting standard for SMEs”, a training session aimed at business professionals, management teams and HR and CSR managers who wish to prepare for regulatory changes and strengthen the competitiveness of their organizations.

In a scenario marked by the entry into force of new European frameworks for sustainability information, small and medium-sized enterprises must prepare to respond to greater demands from customers, financial institutions and large companies obliged by EU regulations.

A new scenario for European SMEs

The workshop will allow participants to contextualize the sustainability report within a global business strategy, understanding the report not as an administrative obligation, but as a strategic tool that improves access to financing, strengthens corporate reputation, and facilitates integration into international value chains.

The following topics will be covered during the session:

The European landscape of sustainability reporting frameworks.
The CSRD Directive and the Omnibus package from the perspective of SMEs.
The differences between traditional CSR memories, GRI standards and the new VSME standard.
The assurance criteria and structure of the report.
The competitive advantages and challenges of the new voluntary reporting model.

The VSME standard: a strategic opportunity for SMEs

The program will delve into the operation of the VSME (Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs), recommended by the European Union as a framework adapted to the reality of small and medium-sized enterprises.

Adopting this standard will allow SMEs to:

    Anticipate future regulatory obligations.
Improve its positioning with regard to clients and supplier companies.
Responding to the demands of sustainable financing.
Integrate sustainability into your business model in a structured way.

With this initiative, the Madrid Chamber of Commerce reinforces its commitment to business sustainability as a strategic axis of competitiveness, offering support and practical tools to facilitate adaptation to the new European regulatory environment.

Madrid Sustainable Business: comprehensive support for companies

Furthermore, the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Madrid City Council, offers companies the Madrid Sustainable Business service, a comprehensive advisory program that helps organizations integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria into their business strategy.

This service offers diagnosis, technical support and practical tools to improve the sustainability, efficiency and competitive positioning of Madrid companies.
