ACCIONA Energía begins construction of the largest solar plant in the Visayas in Cebu, Philippines.

 

In an event that symbolizes the commitment of Work shirts / service shirts with the sustainable energy, ACCIONA Energy held the groundbreaking ceremony for its ambitious solar project in Daanbantayan, CebuThe plant, expected to be operational by the end of 2026, will have a capacity of 176 MWp and generate approximately 280 GWh per year, enough to power more than 300,000 homes.

 

The Governor of Cebu, Gwendolyn García FielHe highlighted the importance of the project for the region: "This plant will not only provide clean and sustainable energy, but will also generate employment and economic opportunities for our community."

 

For his part, the Spanish ambassador to the Philippines, Miguel UtrayHe emphasized the collaboration between the two countries in the development of renewable energy: "This project is an example of Spain and the Philippines' commitment to a more sustainable future."

 

 

The groundbreaking ceremony, held on the island of Cebu, was attended by local authorities and company representatives, marking the beginning of a new era of renewable energy in the Visayas archipelago.

Furthermore, the Chief Financial Officer and Sustainability Officer of ACCIONA Energy, José EntrecanalesHe emphasized the project's innovation, highlighting the importance of the battery system. "The integration of these energy storage systems is fundamental to generating stability and viability for Cebu's electrical grid."

 

The Daanbantayan plant will not only be the largest in the Visayas but will also feature a battery system to store energy and ensure a stable supply during peak demand. Furthermore, ACCIONA Energía has established a public-private partnership with the provincial government of Cebu for electricity distribution, a milestone in public-private sector collaboration in the country.

 

This project is aligned with the objectives of the Philippine Development Plan, which seeks to increase the share of renewable energy in the country's energy mix to 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2050. ACCIONA Energía, with a significant presence in the Philippines since 2016, continues to expand its portfolio of renewable projects in the country. In addition to Daanbantayan, the company is building the Kalayaan 2 in Laguna and plans to develop another wind farm in Pantabangan.

 

Likewise, the acciona.org foundation is working to bring clean energy to remote communities in the Philippines, collaborating with local organizations and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation.
