Aena continues with the development of the Airport Cities, dynamic areas that take advantage of the land adjacent to airports to generate value. Within the framework of this plan, new initiatives have been activated at airports in Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat.
Given the strong growth of the air cargo sector, Aena has launched a new phase of expansion of the Madrid-Barajas Cargo Center. A seven-hectare plot will be offered for the development of logistics infrastructure. This initiative is in addition to the expansion of the southern area of the center, completed between 2016 and 2023.
Aware of the boom in the sector, Aena has prepared a Specific Strategic Plan for Air Cargo. This plan includes improvements in the management of loading centers, optimization of access, expansion of services and the construction of new infrastructure.
Currently, both in Madrid and Barcelona, Aena is working on the launch of additional plots related to Air Cargo, aircraft maintenance and hotel activity.
Aena has concluded consultations with the sector for the development of a logistics zone in Madrid. The high participation of relevant companies (Arcano, Bankinter Logística, Merlin Properties, Prologis, etc.) confirms the interest in this project. In the coming months, plots of five and twenty-five hectares will be put out to tender at the airports of Barcelona-El Prat and Madrid-Barajasrespectively.
In recent months, Aena has awarded several plots in Airport Cities for the construction of logistics warehouses, hangars and a supermarket. These projects exemplify the dynamism and value of these areas.
Aena plans to launch new plots for air cargo, aircraft maintenance and hospitality activities in Madrid and Barcelona. Hangars will also be put out to tender in Zaragoza, Santiago and Sabadell.
The development of Airport Cities is part of Aena's commitment to economic growth and job creation. These initiatives boost activity at airports and contribute to the dynamism of the regions where they are located.
