The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Jose Manuel Albares, met with the Minister of Danish European Affairs, Marie Bjerre, to address key issues such as the green agenda and the next Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Albares expressed Spain's support for Denmark and highlighted the importance of moving forward on files such as the Multiannual Financial Framework, Enlargement, competitiveness and relations EU-CELAC.
"We need to improve European competitiveness based on the triple transition: green, digital and social, while preserving fundamental freedoms and a level playing field," Albares said.
During the meeting, the excellent bilateral relationship between both countries was highlighted, with common interests in climate change, energy transition, gender equality and the defense of multilateralism.
"The Declaration on Green Energy signed between President Pedro Sánchez and Prime Minister Frederiksen in 2023 was a fundamental signal," Albares recalled, advocating for a common approach to the green agenda and exploring synergies in renewable hydrogen and wind farms.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Finally, Albares requested Denmark's support during its Presidency to consolidate Catalan, Basque and Galician as official languages of the European Union, recognising the support of the current Polish Presidency in this area.
