The company is associated with the Saudi group Al Musbah
Aldeasa, one of the world's leading airport retail companies, today signed a contract with Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) to manage five duty-free shops at Saudi airports, the company announced today.
The company, associated with the Saudi international group Al Musbah, won the tender on May 14 to operate these establishments for a period of ten years.
Two of the five stores that Aldeasa will manage are at King Abdulaziz International Airport, with an area of 1.500 square meters; two others, with an area of 2.600 square meters, at King Khaled International Airport, and the fifth, of 400 square meters, at King Fahad International Airport.
Both companies believe that the implementation of the "duty free" business in Saudi Arabia could generate maximum revenues in the first year of between 56 and 63 million euros.
The start of operations in major international airports in Saudi Arabia, following its recent entry into India, reinforces the company's internationalization strategy and consolidates its presence in the Asian airport retail market, where it has been operating since 2000 with establishments in Jordan and Kuwait.
The Al Musbah group is one of the leading local businesses in Saudi Arabia and has a strong presence in Middle Eastern markets.
Saudi Arabia, a strategic country in the Middle East due to its great tourism potential, received more than 26,8 million passengers at its international airports, where airlines such as Air France, Lufthansa, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Air India, Royal Jordanian, Emirates and Egyptian Air, among others, operate.
Saudi Arabia's duty-free shops will reflect some of the new products and services that the Spanish operator implemented in the new shopping area of Terminal 4 at Madrid-Barajas Airport.
Aldeasa closed the 2006 financial year with a turnover of 724 million euros.
With this latest award, Aldeasa, owned by the multinational group Altadis and Autogrill, a leading company in catering services for travelers, strengthens its operations in the international airport retail business, where it already operates in 17 countries on four continents.
