The pioneering startup of New Space in Spain, Alén Space, and the Spanish technology multinational GMV, have reached an acquisition agreement through which Alén Space is integrated into the group of GMV companies.
The operation involves the acquisition by GMV of the majority of the company's capital and a capital increase, with the aim that in five years Alén Space will multiply its turnover by more than ten times, becoming a European leader. and global in the small satellite sector. The agreement contemplates that Alén Space operates under its brand and that the current management team continues to lead the project.
Given the strategic nature of this operation, the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), through its INNVERTE initiative, remains a partner of Alén Space and accompanies GMV in the aforementioned capital increase.
For Alén Space, the agreement offers the possibility of integrating into a global technology group that knows its market, with complementary technology and products and with the capacity and resources to consolidate and multiply the strong growth that it has been experiencing in recent years, reinforcing the positioning of the startup before its clients and against the competition.
Alén Space was born as spin-off of the University of Vigo in 2019 and since it began working on the development of nanosatellites, its team has led missions of international significance, with milestones that have marked its trajectory, such as having launched the first Spanish nanosatellite, Xatcobeo, into orbit. They collaborate with large space agencies and international organizations and have received great recognition at a global level.
For GMV, the agreement means multiplying its commitment to New Space, in which the company has been working for years, and strengthening its leadership position in the space sector at a global level, consolidating the company as one of the main players in this market.
For general director of Alén Space, Guillermo Lamelas: «This operation represents a unique opportunity for Alén Space, due to the fit between both companies and the strong positioning and prestige of GMV. In an environment of growth and strong competition, it opens a path that allows us to aspire to everything.
As stated by the CEO of GMV, Jesús B. Serrano: "This is a long-term agreement between GMV and Alén Space of which we are very proud, to together lead the European and global manufacturing sector of small satellites and related technology."
