The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Ramon Fernandez-Pacheco, has visited the olive oil cooperative 'Agroseville' in The Andalusian Road (Seville), a world leader in the production and export of table olives. During his visit, he announced that Andalusia has reached a historic record in table olive exports, with a value of 702,7 million euros between January and November 2024.
"Andalusia is very proud of its primary sector, and specifically of the olive sector, which continues to break all records," said Fernández-Pacheco, congratulating 'Agrosevilla' "for its titanic work over the years, and for the success of Sevillian and Andalusian table olives."
According to data from Andalucía TRADE, the autonomous community of Andalusia leads table olive exports in Spain, with the province of Seville representing 71,4% of the total, reaching 501,6 million euros.
The United States is the main destination for these exports, with 153,1 million euros, followed by Italy and Saudi Arabia.
Defense of the sector against US tariffs
Despite this success, the Andalusian olive sector faces challenges, especially the tariffs imposed by the United States on black olives. Fernández-Pacheco described these tariffs as «unfair and contrary to international law", and demanded that the Spanish Government already..." European Union that they "intensify" diplomatic efforts for its elimination.
"These tariffs have caused losses of more than 120 million euros in exports since 2018," the councilor stated, stressing the need to reverse this situation that seriously affects Andalusian producers.
'Agrosevilla': a giant in the sector
Founded in 1977, Agrosevilla has become the world's largest producer and exporter of table olives and one of Spain's leading exporters of olive oil. The cooperative, comprised of 12 cooperative societies and over 4.000 member farmers, has an annual production capacity exceeding 80.000 tons, exporting its products to more than 70 countries.
In 2023, Agrosevilla achieved a turnover of nearly €200 million, with growth exceeding 30% over the last five years. Its main export destinations include Italy, Saudi Arabia, United States, Spain, South Korea, United Kingdom, Canada and Russia.
The visit of Councillor Fernández-Pacheco to 'Agrosevilla' served to recognize the leadership of the Andalusian olive sector and to highlight the importance of addressing the challenges it still faces, such as US tariffs, in order to continue boosting its growth and consolidation in the global market.
