Andalucía has burst into the Japanese market with force, positioning itself as a benchmark for agri-food excellence. The XVII Presentation of Andalusian Products in Tokyo, organized by Andalucía TRADE, has brought together more than 200 professionals from the sector, where 64 Andalusian companies have exhibited their wide range of gourmet products.
Japan, the third world economic power, presents a great attraction for Andalusian agri-food companies. With a population of more than 125 million people and limited agricultural land, the Japanese country relies heavily on imports to satisfy its domestic demand.
The Japanese consumer, with high purchasing power and demanding quality, especially appreciates Andalusian products. In fact, Andalusian agri-food exports to Japan have experienced notable growth in January 2024, reaching 12,2 million euros, 22,4% more than in the same period of the previous year.
Olive oil is consolidated as the most demanded Andalusian product in Japan, with sales that reached 8 million euros in January 2024, representing 66% of total agri-food exports.
The trade of the Andalusian agri-food complex with Japan has experienced notable progress in January 2024, as it has grown by 22,4% year-on-year, totaling exports of 12,2 million euros
Beyond olive oil, other products such as meat, beverages, vegetable preparations and fruits are also gaining ground in the Japanese market. The presence of companies from all the Andalusian provinces at the fair has highlighted the rich diversity and quality of the regional agri-food offer.
Malaga is the province with the highest volume of agri-food exports to Japan, with 3,4 million euros, followed by Seville with 3,2 million. Granada, for its part, is experiencing the greatest growth, with an increase of 958% and a total of 2,1 million euros in sales.
The participation of Andalusia in fairs such as Tokyo, together with the promotion strategies promoted by Andalucía TRADE, predict an even more prosperous future for Andalusian agri-food exports in Japan. The quality, diversity and unique flavor of the region's products are undoubtedly its best presentation cards in this high-potential market.
