Andalucía TRADE promotes nine prestigious Andalusian wineries before 70 professionals in Japan

Andalucía TRADE has organized the participation of nine prestigious Andalusian wineries from Cádiz, Córdoba, Huelva and Málaga in two technical sessions in front of 70 Japanese hospitality professionals, held in the Japanese cities of Kumamoto and Fukuoka, on June 6 and 7.

The event has been an exceptional opportunity to diversify international sales of Andalusian wines towards Japan, the sector's first Asian market and gateway for companies in the community to the continent, the second one that grows the most in 2022, with a historical record of exports. , adding 8,3 million euros and a year-on-year growth of 19,3%.

 

Likewise, the nine Andalusian companies that have participated in the conference have been represented by their local importers in Japan, an emerging market that already adds a record of 3,3 million euros to the Andalusian bill, 40% of wine sales. to the Asian continent, thanks to an increase of 80%, which places it as the eighth global market and the third fastest growing in the TOP 10.

 

These historical figures confirm that the Andalusian wine sector is advancing in its strategy of expanding markets, registering sales towards Europe, America and Africa within your top ten destinations; and finds in Japan the ideal channel to enter Asia, which already accounts for 8,5% of total world sales.

 

The technical meetings have been organized by Andalucía TRADE, Business Agency for Economic Transformation and Development, in collaboration with three Japanese business entities: the HBA (Hotel Barmen's Association) of Japan; the NBA (Nippon Bartenders Association); and the PBO (Professional Bartenders Organization), three organizations that bring together the country's main hospitality professionals.

 

According to reports from the Andalusian agency, Japan It is a destination of opportunity, since the Japanese consumer, with refined tastes, is especially interested in products that are distinguished from the rest by their quality and flavor, as is the case with wines with a designation of origin from Jerez or Malaga. The Japanese also enjoy a very rich culinary culture, in which they include the combination of food and drinks as a differential element, a space in which Andalusian wines are the perfect complement.

 

Likewise, these consumers appreciate those products that carry history and tradition in their cultivation and production, a fact that also adds to their special appreciation of Andalusian wines, which thus incorporate a component of uniqueness to a very exclusive product.

During the course of the two days, representatives of Andalusian companies attended a series of presentations by Yoshiko Akehi, one of the most important ambassadors of Andalusian wines in Japan. The writer and disseminator of the sector in specialized media and in travel and gastronomic books has more than twenty years of traveling around the community to learn about the particularities of Andalusian wines.

 

The wine expert gave an extensive tour of the main designations of origin of Andalusian wines to 70 attendees, and also mentioned some of the wines that have a somewhat more particular characteristic, which makes them have the distinctive Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). Furthermore, after the presentations, a wine tasting was held in both cities with the varieties of the nine Andalusian wineries that participated in the conference: Sherry wine, Manzanilla, Montilla Moriles, sweet wine from Malaga. and the wine from Condado de Huelva.

 

Andalusian wines are a reference for the Andalusia Brand, and in recent years they have become good ambassadors of this, given the prestigious international recognition they enjoy for their wide range and variety. A total of six designations of origin and thirteen geographical indications make up the range of Andalusian wines, possibly the widest internationally, ranging from the driest wines in the world, such as Sherry wines, to the sweetest, such as Pedro Ximénez, from Montilla Moriles; the latter highly appreciated by the Japanese consumer.

 

Wineries of Cádiz, Málaga, Córdoba and Huelva

 

A total of 9 internationally recognized wineries have participated in the event through their local importers from Cádiz (Bodegas Barbadillo, Bodegas Osborne, Sánchez Romate, Bodega Católico Agrícola and Bodega De Forlong), Córdoba (Bodega Alvear and Bodega Pérez Baquero) and Huelva (Bodegas Contreras Ruiz) and Málaga (Bodegas F. Schatzs Fs). The organization of this action by Extenda will be co-financed with funds from the European Union through the FEDER OP of Andalusia 2014-2020, endowed with a community contribution of 80%, or any other European Program that may co-finance this action.

Andalusian wine exports register their main advances in markets on the three continents, which shows their geographical diversification. Thus, Japan is the first Asian destination and eighth in the world, being the third fastest growing market in the TOP 10 Andalusian market in the world, with an increase of 80% compared to 2021, only behind Morocco (4,3 million), the sixth global destination, which multiplies its sales by 269; and Mexico (10th), with 2,4 million, which quintuples its sales compared to 2021.

 

Likewise, Europe and America continue to occupy the top positions in the TOP 10 of world sales of Andalusian wines with the United Kingdom in first place followed by the United States, the Netherlands, Germany and Canada.
