Aragon experiences a 14,7% decrease in its exports during July 2024

 

According to the latest report from the Territorial Directorate of Commerce in Aragon, the region's exports reached €1.484,1 million in July 2024, representing a 14,7% drop compared to the same month of the previous year. This decline is also reflected in the month-on-month analysis, where exports decreased by 1,6%.

 

Zaragoza, the most active province in terms of foreign trade, reported exports of 1.212,3 million euros, with a negative variation of 17,2%. In contrast, Huesca experienced a slight increase of 2,2%, reaching 238 million euros. Teruel, for its part, saw its exports fall by 20,8%, totalling 33,8 million euros.

 

Imports have also shown a significant decline, standing at 1.600 billion euros, which is equivalent to a decrease of 18,6% compared to the previous year. At the provincial level, Zaragoza recorded 1.458,8 million euros in imports (-22,4%), Huesca 75,1 million (+6,8%) and Teruel 66,1 million (+325,3%).

 

El Aragon's trade balance has reflected a deficit of 115,9 million euros, which represents an increase of 48,9% compared to the same month of the previous year. The coverage rate stood at 92,8%, indicating that imports significantly exceed exports.

 

Authorities have expressed concern about these results, urging companies to diversify their markets and seek new business opportunities in emerging regions.

 

The export sectors that occupy the first positions in economic terms are the food, beverages and tobacco, which reached 349,3 million euros with a positive variation of 10%. However, the automobile sector, which represents an important part of the regional economy, has suffered a drastic fall of 54,1%, reaching 324,6 million euros in exports. 

 

As for imports, capital goods lead the way with €536,2 million, albeit with a negative year-on-year variation of 14,7%. Other important sectors include consumer goods and chemical products, which have shown a mixed performance compared to the previous year.

 

Geographically, Aragon's exports continue to predominate towards the European Union, with France, Italy and Germany as the main destinations. However, a significant decline has been observed in exports to these countries, which poses an additional challenge for Aragonese exporters.

 

Authorities have expressed concern over these results, urging companies to diversify their markets and seek new business opportunities in emerging regions. "It is crucial that we adapt to the changing circumstances of international trade and seek to strengthen our trade relationships beyond the EU," the spokesperson emphasized.
