Growth Driven by Strategic Exchange

The president of the APBA, Gerardo Landalucehighlighted the excellent evolution of import and export traffic between both parties. According to Landaluce, during the current fiscal year, these flows have increased by 27%, which makes the Philippines the second asian market for the Port of Algeciras, second only to China.

The composition of the trade balance is varied and strategic. The Philippines uses the port of Algeciras to send automotive components to Europe and plastic manufacturingAmong others. For its part, Spain exports high-value products to the archipelago from the Strait port, such as Jerez brandy, olive oil y porkThis configuration maintains a positive trade balance for Spain.

Despite these encouraging figures, the sector acknowledges that there is potential for more. The president of COMPORT, José Manuel TejedorHe noted that: “there is a lot of room for improvement, something that the port companies are working on with the aim of increasing connectivity between Algeciras and the Philippines.”

Currently, this connectivity is guaranteed through four shipping lines, with a transit time (transit time) from 34 days by Singapore o Kaohsiung (Taiwan).
