Under the chairmanship of the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, the Ibero-American foreign ministers held a key teleconference meeting in which they approved the new strategic objectives of Ibero-American cooperation.

The meeting, held within the framework of the Secretariat pro tempore exercised by Spain, laid the foundations for a more strategic cooperation within the Ibero-American Community of Nations. The foreign ministers gave the green light to the objectives and entrusted the relevant bodies with the preparation of an operational plan for their effective implementation.
In a gesture of regional unity, the ministers approved a Common Ibero-American Position to encourage the next person to assume the United Nations Secretariat to come from the region of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Furthermore, significant progress was made on the proposal to establish a structured and permanent dialogue with the Caribbean regionThis initiative will focus on an agenda of shared interests and will seek to achieve tangible results derived from cooperation between both regions.
Progress towards the Madrid Summit 2026
The meeting also served to approve crucial administrative documents for the functioning of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), and the report on Associate and Consultative Observers was presented. This report will be fundamental for establish a meeting schedule with concrete proposals on political and cooperation matters, looking ahead to the next Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government.
With this renewed impetus to the mechanisms of the Ibero-American Community, progress is being made in the schedule of forums and preparatory meetings leading up to the Summit, which will be held in Madrid, November 4th and 5th, 2026.
