El Port of Algeciras takes a significant step towards a model of road traffic management smarter, more efficient, and more predictive with the activation of your new Unified Road Freight Service (SUMC)This value-added service, integrated into the APBA's Teleport 2.0 Platform, focuses on optimizing the movement of trucks operating in the Strait linesSpecifically, Algeciras-Tangier Med and Algeciras-Ceuta.
Beginning December 9, the SUMC will become the single channel to manage both the boarding reservation requests for heavy transport vehicles such as the prior appointment access to the port area. The main objective of this measure is fluid and digital coordination with the shipping companies that operate in the Strait of Gibraltar traffic, simplifying a process that is essential for the foreign trade between Europe and Africa.
The new system not only centralizes procedures, but also introduces a digital layer which guarantees full traceability of the merchandise. This covers everything from the initial request to the actual loading of the truck. The APBA emphasizes that this full traceability will contribute a greater transparency and efficiency for all agents involved in the logistics chain.
"The aim of the initiative is to move towards a road traffic management model for Algeciras-Tangier Med and Algeciras-Ceuta, smarter, more efficient, and more predictive"Explain sources from the Port Authority, underlining the importance of this digital transformation.
To facilitate the adoption of the new system, the Port Authority of Algeciras will offer a training session online the next December 3This session will explain in detail how the platform works and the new procedures that carriers and agents in the supply chain must follow to guarantee a smooth transition and without incident.
