Budimex completes the modernization of Poland's largest railway hub: Warsaw West

Ferrovial's Polish subsidiary, Budimex, has successfully completed the comprehensive renovation of Warsaw West Station, positioning it as the nerve center of the country's rail transport. Following a project spanning nearly five years, this mega-infrastructure not only improves connectivity for 60.000 passengers and 1.000 trains daily, but also sets a new standard for sustainability and technology in the region's logistics and transport sector.

The modernization project, framed within the National Railway Program from Poland, represents a crucial milestone for the internationalization and infrastructure development by Spanish companies in Eastern Europe.

 

The ambitious project involved demolishing the old facilities to build a completely new infrastructure. Warsaw West station now boasts a grand entrance hall in its northern zone and nine modern above-ground platformsA key element for the smooth flow of passenger traffic is the new underground access corridor to the tracks, also conceived as a large shopping arcade.

 

Innovation and Operational Capacity

 

The new track configuration is significantly more efficient. More than 35 kilometers of new roads, Together with 137 track switches and 191 traffic control signals, ensuring a more agile and safer operation. The traveler experience has been prioritized with the installation of nearly 580 information screens.

 

The platforms, which together cover a total area of Sqm 35.000, are connected to the underground passage (level -1) by elevators and escalatorspromoting accessibility. This 63-meter-wide passageway connects to the station's new main building, which houses a spacious lobby and a modern shopping mall with a varied selection of shops and restaurants.

 

Commitment to Sustainability

 

The new station has been designed according to the strictest principles of sustainable developmentIts impressive features stand out. photovoltaic installation of more than 8.000 square meterswhich is designed to cover approximately the 30% of electrical needs of the vast complex.
