The president of the Chamber reiterated the institution's interest in promoting economic relations between both territories, when receiving the Ambassador of Slovenia in Spain.
The president of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services and Navigation of Gran Canaria, Jose Sanchez Tinoco, has received a visit from the ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in Spain, Robert Krmelj, accompanied by the general director of Economic Diplomacy in the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Slobodan Šešum. This visit takes place within the framework of the inauguration of the new Consulate of Slovenia in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, headed by the new Honorary Consul, Pedro Gomez.

During his speech, the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Gran Canaria, highlighted that it is great news for the Canary Islands to have a Slovenian consulate, “not only because of the consultative and advisory work that it will carry out, but also because we know that it will to contribute to the promotion of economic activity between both territories.”
Sánchez Tinoco reiterated that “this Chamber has focused its interest on Slovenia; a country of many opportunities, which has experienced the advancement of technology and important socioeconomic development.” Likewise, he recalled that the first face-to-face commercial missionWhat the Chamber carried out after the start of the pandemic was precisely to Slovenia last June with a significant number of Gran Canaria companies, in order to promote economic relations between both territories.

For his part, the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in Spain assured that the opening of the Consulate in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria demonstrates “our interest in strengthening cooperation in the different possible areas with the Canary Islands.” Likewise, he stated that “from our embassy, and now from the new consulate, we are going to continue working to strengthen relations with the Chamber of Commerce of Gran Canaria to support the Economic recovery".
The general director of Economic Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, who was grateful for the Chamber's reception, valued the trade mission to Slovenia that the Chamber organized due to the institutional and commercial relations that materialized, and highlighted that both territories have in common the decisive commitment not only to digital transformation, but also to other emerging sectors, such as the green economy and sustainable tourism. Likewise, he reiterated his commitment for Slovenian companies to come to the Canary Islands and seal agreements that were included in the memorandum of understanding that the Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce signed with the Slovenian Chamber last June.
Precisely, the Honorary Consul of Slovenia in the Canary Islands, Pedro Gomez, who thanked the president of the Chamber for the reception and the good relations maintained, highlighted his commitment to continue outlining the aforementioned Memorandum of Understanding, and promote future collaborations that are beneficial for both territories.
