The president of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services and Navigation of Gran Canaria, Jose Sanchez Tinoco, has received a visit from the ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in Spain, Robert Krmelj, together with a delegation of Slovenian companies interested in Canary Islands. The visit responds to a trade mission which took place in June last year, where a group of Canarian companies studied business opportunities in Slovenia.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Internationalization of the Government of the Canary Islands, Blas Acosta.
During his speech, the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Gran Canaria, highlighted that “this Chamber has focused its interest on Slovenia, country of many opportunities, which has experienced the advancement of technology and significant socioeconomic development.” Likewise, he recalled that the first in-person trade mission that the Chamber has carried out after the start of the pandemic was precisely to Slovenia last June with a significant number of Gran Canaria companies, in order to promote economic relations between both territories. .
In turn, the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Spain, who was grateful for the reception from the Chamber, stated: “Several important companies from Slovenia have come that offer services in the digital field, energy, sustainable development, which have shown their interest in the Canary Islands,” and highlighted: “Within “Of this business delegation there is a representative of an important Slovenian tour operator who is working on a more regular line, to establish a direct bridge between the Islands and Slovenia.”

The ambassador valued the trade mission to Slovenia organized by the Chamber last year due to the institutional and commercial relationships that materialized, and highlighted that both territories have in common the decided commitment not only to digital transformation, but also to other sectors. emerging, such as the green economy and sustainable tourism.
In turn, the Deputy Minister of Economy, Blas Acosta, which highlighted the permanent support of the Canary Islands executive to the business community during the current economic internationalization process, pointed out that Slovenia is a very important market in terms of new technologies, in the tourism and port field, and that as the ambassador pointed out: “It is important to work to establish regular connection lines with Slovenia, because it is a market that opens possibilities with other neighboring countries, which would allow us to bring diversification of tourists to the Canary Islands.”
At the meeting, several presentations were made, one by the director of the International department of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, Ines Čigoja, about business opportunities in Slovenia; and another presentation by the Gran Canaria Economic Promotion Society, SPEGC, about the opportunities that Gran Canaria offers. Companies from the Island interested in holding meetings and studying investment possibilities also attended.
