The Interprofessional Wine Organization of Spain (OIVE) and the Interprofessional Wine Association of Portugal (ViniPortugal) have presented in Madrid "Feel the European quality with wines from Spain and Portugal. A Shared Passion", a joint campaign, financed with European funds, that seeks to promote the shared passion for wine from both countries.

The event has had the participation of Angel Villafranca, president of OIVE, and with Frederico Falcao, president of ViniPortugal, who welcomed the attendees and highlighted the relevance of the union between these two important producing countries and the importance of work together to take advantage of synergies. The event brought together national and Portuguese institutional representatives, and European and national press. For its part, Susana García Dolla, general director of OIVE, has been in charge of presenting the activities of this campaign, highlighting that “as countries, we are very close in many aspects: we share the Iberian Peninsula, customs and lifestyle where wine, consumed in moderation, is a important part".

"Feel the European quality with wines from Spain and Portugal. A Shared Passion"; is the name of the joint program of the two interprofessionals, which will last three years, and which seeks to show the quality represented by the protected designations of origin and the protected geographical indications, as well as the wine-growing tradition of the two countries.

The actions will be carried out in Spain and Portugal until 2024, and there is an investment of more than 2 million euros for this entire period. In addition to European tourists, the campaign will also be aimed at professionals in the wine sector in the target markets (importers and sommeliers), the media and opinion leaders.

After the presentation event, a seminar and tasting of Spanish wines took place, with a selection of institutional wines from Denominations of Origin, representing some of the most popular wine regions in Spain. The seminar was given by the wine specialist and disseminator Joaquin Galvez, also known for his television show “Wine Man”.

#ASharedPassion, a passion shared between Spain and Portugal

If there is an area that can truly boast the quality, authenticity, history and tradition of its wines, it is the Iberian Peninsula. And under the motto of the campaign, #AsharedPassion, we want to show that the quality of Iberian wines is due to the great wealth of varieties and DOP and IGP quality seals and, above all, to the passion with which they are they elaborate. The campaign materials focus on the idea that when the visitor tastes a wine from Spain or Portugal they also feel the land, the dedication and, above all, the long tradition behind each of these countries.

The campaign will also focus on relevance that the wine sector has in both countries since it plays a fundamental role in the economic, social and environmental sustainability of many of its municipalities, generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs that go far beyond the vineyards and wineries, and that prevent and combat rural depopulation. In fact, its positive impact is not only limited to producing countries, but also contributes to boosting the European economy through activities such as transport, logistics, marketing or sales.
