Extenda and Landaluz bet on the Portuguese market to promote Andalusian food and drinks

Extenda has organized, in collaboration with Landaluz, the Andalusian Food Business Association, a new promotion for Andalusian food and beverages in the centers owned by El Corte Inglés in the Portuguese cities of Lisbon and Oporto.

This action aims to reinforce the brand image of Andalusian products and improve their presence in the Portuguese market, a destination to which the community exported food and beverages in the first seven months of 2022 worth 582 million euros, a 6,6 % more than in the same period of the previous year, thus reaching a historical record of exports

 

 

Likewise, both entities aim to reference Andalusian products among consumers and to this end the shelves of both centers have more than 170 references from around twenty Andalusian brands. Among the products present in the promotion, highlights include Iberian products, oils, preserves, groceries, charcuterie, fresh meat, fish, fruits, vegetables, wines and frozen foods, among others.

 

 

The food and beverage industry Andalucía It has been represented by 20 companies from the eight provinces. Of them, a total of six are based in Seville (Centro Sur, CorSevilla, DJ Semiconservas, Heredad de Valdeporres, Consorcio de Jabugo and Salysol); four in Cordoba (Product Marketing Company: El Guiso, La flor de Rute, Pérez Barquero and COVAP); and three from the province of Granada (Fontedei Wineries, Caña Nature and Kumquat Derivatives).

 

 

In addition, two companies from Malaga (Triselecta and Ubago Group Mare); two from Jaén (Alcalá Oliva and Patatas Fritas Santo Reino); one from Almería (Cubisol Almería); one from Cádiz (Legumbres Pedro); and another from Huelva (Mariscos Méndez). The organization of this action by Extenda will be co-financed with funds from the European Union through the FEDER OP of Andalusia 2014-2020, endowed with a community contribution of 80%, or any other European Program that may co-finance this action.

This international promotion, which takes place from September 23 to October 6, was inaugurated by María Lara, director of the Extenda Promotion Area; Miguel Ángel Jiménez, general secretary of Landaluz; and Nuno Serra, director of the supermarket The English Court of Lisbon.

 

 

The El Corte Inglés chain began its international expansion in 2001 with its first shopping center in the city of Lisbon, and opened its second headquarters in Gaia, located in the Porto district, in 2006. It currently has eight stores, two shopping centers in Lisbon and Vila Nova de Gaia (Oporto) and six Supercor in Beloura, Expo, Restelo, Coimbra, Fluvial Porto and Braga, exceeding 3.000 workers

 

This promotional action is the result of the agreement signed between Extenda and Landaluz, which aims to
optimize and coordinate their respective resources, programs and activities, to enhance promotion
international of the agri-food sector in Portugal, of which Andalusia is the national leader in exports.
Extenda and Landaluz have coordinated to manage and organize the image and decoration of the areas
dedicated to promotion in different supermarkets, as well as furniture and facilities for the
conservation and preparation of the frozen product. In turn, they have managed the logistics and shipments of the products to the Portuguese country, and the preparation of a promotional catalog to be distributed among consumers. Landaluz, Food Business Association of Andalusia, It is the leading entity for the agri-food sector in Andalusia, bringing together almost 70% of the total turnover of the sector in the community, which highlights the specific weight it has as an agro-industrial business association. Founded in 1990, it is currently present in all agri-food subsectors, leading many of them such as oil, olive, canning and wine, present in all Andalusian provinces, and is made up of companies of all formats and sizes, which Together they have a turnover of more than 7.500 billion euros and generate around 20.000 jobs, especially in rural Andalusia.

 

 

Portugal: export record

 

 

Agri-food exports from Andalusia to Portugal reached 582 million euros in the first seven months of 2022, its best historical record for a January-July period since comparable data exists (1995), thanks to an interannual growth of 6,6% . In turn, the agri-food bill for these seven months manages to contribute 182 million euros of positive balance abroad to the regional economy.

 

 

In this period, the community continues to lead exports of agri-food and beverages from Spain to Portugal, concentrating almost one in four euros (17,1%) of total national sales (3.399 million), almost two points ahead of Galicia (15,4%) and almost five from Catalonia (12,6%). In addition, Portugal is the seventh destination market for the sector with 6,4% of the world total. Six of the eight provinces grow with Seville as the agri-food leader in Portugal, between January and July 2022, registering sales worth 197 million euros, 34% of the total, with a decrease of 4,2% compared to the same period of the year. last year. In second place is Córdoba, with 101 million in sales, 17,4%, with a growth of 9,5%; followed by Málaga, with 65 million and 11,1%, which increases its figures by 7,5%.
