CIMALSA will collaborate with Angola for the development of a Special Economic Zone

The president and CEO of CIMALSA, Isaac Albert Agut, and the president of the board of directors of the Luanda-Bengo SEZ, Pedro Manuel Francisco, sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Catalan entity to advise the economic development of which It is the largest area in Angola destined for the implementation of industrial, logistics and service projects.

CIMALSA, a public company of the Generaltat of Catalonia that promotes, develops and manages infrastructure and plants for the transport of goods, logistics and mobility, will collaborate with Angola for the development of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the capital of the African country.

 

The president and CEO of CIMALSA, Isaac Albert Agut, and the president of the board of directors of the Luanda-Bengo SEZ, Pedro Manuel Francisco, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) so that the Catalan entity advises the economic development of what is the largest area of Angola intended for the implementation of industrial, logistics and service projects. With more than 4.000 hectares, the space was created in 2009 by the Angolan State, which now wants to energize it with a new strategy to boost the local economy and the country, in general. The Luanda-Bengo SEZ It also includes a shopping center, housing projects, services and other investments.

During the last two days, a delegation from the SEA, has visited various Catalan facilities, such as the Port of Barcelona and the ZAL Port. The visit ended with the signing of the MOU, a declaration of intent that must be materialized in future CIMALSA advisory and consulting service contracts to promote the growth of the SEZ and consolidate this space through more economic, industrial, logistical, commercial and services.

 

The objective of the MOU is to accompany and advise the Angolan entity in the change of its current legal regime to reconvert into Free Zone, as well as working on the business opportunities that are derived from this step to become a leading area in the sector. The collaboration proposal involves the determination of a strategy to be developed with the prioritization of the businesses to be implemented in the future FTZ, as well as, where appropriate, the review of commercial management to establish a program of adaptation to the new status.

 

Among the possible projects to be developed are rail and road connectivity of space, a new governance model, training tools and the implementation of innovation, technology and sustainability, among others that suit both parties. CIMALSA and the EEZ.

 

About the collaboration signed today, Isaac Albert has highlighted that "Cimalsa is an agent of change, transformation and value contribution in the implementation of logistics projects around the world, as in the case of Angola, capable of generating the strategy, analyzing the viability, designing the infrastructure, the economic and financial structure to the search for investors."

 

This is not the first international collaboration of CIMALSA, which in 2011, through the ILI, also established a collaboration agreement with Ecuador for the country's logistics planning.
