Naturgy and Wildfire Energy, an Australian company specialized in gasification technology, have reached an agreement to research and develop a novel technology to obtain green hydrogen from waste.
The new process, called MIHG (Moving Injection Horizontal Gasification), allows obtaining high-quality green hydrogen, with net negative carbon emissions, from the treatment of a wide range of dry urban and agricultural waste.
With this collaboration, Wildfire will operate a pilot plant in Brisbane (Australia) for the production of hydrogen for use in any application, including mobility. For its part, Naturgy will take advantage of its experience in renewable gas projects to validate the process and ensure its scalability at an industrial level, with the aim of studying its implementation in Spain and in Europe.
In recent years, Naturgy has invested more than 1.500 billion euros in the development of renewable energy projects, with the aim of reaching an installed capacity of 20 GW in 2025.
"The company is aware of the global challenge we face in decarbonization and the fight against climate change," he said. Jesús Chapado, Director of Innovation at Naturgy. "In this context, we perceive innovation as the tool that allows us to achieve clean energy solutions for the future. This collaboration is an example of Naturgy's commitment to renewable gases, in whose development the company wants to play a key role."
"Wildfire is pleased to announce this service agreement with Naturgy, a leading company in the biomethane and hydrogen sector throughout Europe," he said. Greg Perkins, President and CEO of Wildfire. "We look forward to working with Naturgy's innovation team and demonstrating our waste-to-hydrogen technology through additional pilot operations and completing a conceptual study for a first project in Spain."
The agreement between Naturgy and Wildfire Energy is part of the company's determined commitment to the decarbonization of its activity.
