El Andalusian agri-food sector has reached a new milestone in its exports to Japan, with a growth of 15,9% in the first half of 2024, totaling 93 million euros in sales. These figures consolidate Japan as the second asian market for Andalusian products, only surpassed by China. Within this thriving dynamic, olive oil is positioned as the main exported product, representing 64% of the total with 60 million euros.
Andalucía TRADE, in its effort to strengthen the presence of these products in Japan, has organized two important events at the hotel Grand InterContinental Yokohama: a gastronomic fair that will run until November 25 and a cooking course on September 9, both aimed at presenting the virtues of Andalusian gastronomy to a market of 125 million potential consumers.

The Andalusian chef Ezequiel Montilla, Restaurant Soul of Puente Genil, was a key piece in both events. During the gastronomic days of September 7 and 8, Montilla designed menus that offered dishes such as Andalusian octopus with lime and lemon aioli, salmorejo with tuna tartar and acorn-fed pork tenderloin with sautéed mushrooms. "It is an honor to represent Andalusia in Japan and show the versatility and quality of our products in a kitchen that increasingly appreciates the flavors of our land," said Montilla, who also taught a successful cooking course to more than 65 Japanese chefs in collaboration with the All Japan Chefs Association (AJCA).
As for Andalusian companies, 28 brands have participated in these events, representing sectors as varied as olive oil, meat and fish. This participation, co-financed by European funds, SPRING, underlines Andalucía TRADE's commitment to the internationalisation of the agri-food sector.
By provinces, Seville leads Andalusian agri-food exports to Japan with 32 million euros, followed by Malaga (20,8 million) and Cordoba, which stands out with an increase of 155% compared to the same period of the previous year.
