On September 12, 2024, Barceló Hotel Group celebrated the official opening of its first hotel in Cape Verde, the Barceló Praia Cape Verde, located in the capital of the Santiago IslandThe event was attended by more than 100 guests, including the co-president of Grupo Barceló, Simon Pedro Barceló, and the Prime Minister of Cape Verde, Ulysses CorreiaDuring the ceremony, the group's commitment to the country's economic and social development through investments and local job creation was highlighted.
Barceló Praia Cape Verde, a 5-star city hotel with 80 rooms and spectacular views of the Ocean, joins the company's ambitious expansion plan in Cape Verde. Following this opening, Barceló Hotel Group plans to open two new hotels in Boa Vista: the Occidental Boa Vista Beach, a 4-star hotel with 300 rooms, and the Barceló Marine Boa Vista, a 5-star hotel with 160 rooms. These openings will generate more than 1.600 jobs by the end of 2024, with 95% of the jobs occupied by the local population.

The total investment in these projects exceeds 50 million euros, reflecting the group's commitment to sustainable and regenerative development, including the installation of solar thermal panels and agreements with local foundations to support people at risk of social exclusion. In addition, Barceló Hotel Group has signed an agreement with the Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo de Cabo Verde to hire students for internships in its new hotels.
