ACCIONA has been selected to carry out the tertiary treatment at the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) of Vilamoura, located in the Algarve. This project, carried out together with the local company Technorém and awarded by Algarve waters, will use ultrafiltration technology to produce high-quality reclaimed water for irrigation of golf courses. This plant is expected to be operational in mid-2026 with a treatment capacity of 1.000 m³ / h.

On the other hand, the Carvalhal WWTP has been awarded by Waters of the Atlantic Tagus. This facility will employ advanced activated sludge technology with the capacity to treat 356 m³ / hThe aim is to extend proper wastewater treatment to the local population for the first time, thus helping to prevent pollution of the Lizandro River and protecting the nearby tourist beach.

Both contracts represent a significant advance in the environmental measures adopted by Portugal to preserve their water resources and reflect ACCIONA's extensive international experience.

The company has previously participated in more than 70 infrastructure projects within the Portuguese country, highlighting emblematic works such as the Oriente Station in Lisbon or the Infante Don Henrique bridge.

In the water sector specifically, ACCIONA has built more than 30 plants dedicated to both residual and potable water treatment. Among them, the Alcantarilha water treatment plant stands out with a remarkably high maximum daily capacity.

These new projects not only reinforce the environmental and technological commitment between Spain and Portugal but also consolidate ACCIONA as a key player in European sustainable development.
