On ICEX Transport Infrastructure Forum, celebrated on Oslo, Minister Puente emphasized the "technological avant-garde and the unquestionable guarantees" offered by Spanish companies. "They are first-class partners throughout the transport chain and have extensive international experience. For all these reasons, I would like to offer Norway Spanish know-how," said the minister.
In their bilateral meeting, Puente and Nygård explored opportunities for Spanish companies to actively participate in the development of the Norwegian Transport Plan, which prioritizes sustainability, digitalization and national security.
"We have conveyed our strong support to the Spanish companies that are already present in Norway, such as in the project for the new Fornebu metro station, and we have expressed our interest in expanding this collaboration," said Puente.
Puente highlighted the capacity and experience of Spanish companies in infrastructure development, offering their know-how for Norway's ambitious 2025-2036 Transport Plan
Both ministers recognized the common challenges facing their countries, including:
- The need to decarbonise transport in a way that is compatible with economic growth.
- Integration of climate variables into the design and maintenance of infrastructure.
- The importance of considering the social and territorial impact of transport, prioritising the mobility needs of citizens.
Oscar Puente highlighted the Spain's leadership in the railway sector, especially at high speed. "We are a world example in the development of railway technology," he said, highlighting that Spain has the largest high-speed network in Europe and the second largest in the world.
The minister also stressed the importance of intermodality, the electrification of ports and the development of a more sustainable air transport.
"Our goal is to make the railway the backbone of the transport system, while continuing to improve our road network and promoting sustainability in all modes of transport," concluded Puente.
