In celebration of its centenary, the Rioja Denominación de Origen Calificada (DOCa) won over discerning palates in Switzerland during the exclusive "Rioja Prestige Tasting" event.

Held at the award-winning restaurant Einstein Gourmet from St. GallenThe evening brought together leading figures from the Swiss wine industry, including distributors, specialist journalists, and renowned sommeliers, who immersed themselves in the excellence and diversity of Rioja wines.
The renowned prescriber, professor and journalist David Schwarzwalder, who led the tasting, commented on the selection: "My goal was to showcase current trends in Rioja and also to introduce the new wave of whites from old vineyards and a cast of producers that reflect the quality and diversity of the Denomination." He also added on the importance of the event in the context of the centenary: "In the framework of the Centenary of RiojaIt is important to highlight the merit of having driven the Denomination through complex times to become the strongest in Spain."
The most influential Swiss influencers, experts, and professionals met at the prestigious Einstein Gourmet restaurant, around 25 magnificent wines from the DOCa Rioja.
The Riojan chef Miguel Caño, from the Michelin-starred Nublo restaurant (Haro), who participated in the development of the haute cuisine menu, expressed his satisfaction with the invitation from the Regulatory Council.
The award-winning sommelier Loris Lenzo, winner of the 2024 Michelin Sommelier Award, in charge of the pairing, highlighted the harmony achieved between the culinary proposal and the Rioja wines.
For its part, the Spanish Ambassador to Switzerland, María Celsa Nuño, who presented the Officer's Cross of the Royal Order of Civil Merit to David Schwarzwälder, highlighted the expert's "extensive career and essential work in the dissemination and promotion of wine in international markets."
