A key destination for RIU's global strategy

RIU celebrates 20 years of success in Cape Verde with a Recognition Gala

The event, which underscores RIU's deep connection with the destination and its community, was attended by the distinguished Prime Minister of Cape Verde, His Excellency Dr. Ulisses Correia e Silva.

RIU Hotels & Resorts commemorated its twentieth anniversary in Cape Verde with an emotional gala held on April 29 at the hotel Riu Funana, the chain's first establishment in the archipelago, opened in 2005.

 

The celebration served as a platform to recognize the invaluable contributions of collaborators, suppliers, and social organizations that have been fundamental pillars in RIU's history in the country. A total of 35 awards were presented at an event that also included the participation of the Hon. Mr. José Luis Sá Nogueira, Minister of Tourism; His Excellency Mr. Vítor Coutinho, Minister of Infrastructure, Land Use Planning and Housing; and Felix Casado, member of the RIU Board of Directors and head of the chain in Cape Verde.

 

During the event, RIU awarded recognition to its most outstanding collaborators, suppliers and social organizations in the destination.

 

During his speech, Prime Minister Correia e Silva praised the RIU's business model, highlighting its commitment to employee training and its concern for the well-being of the local community. He also emphasized the hotel chain's crucial role as a driver of tourism development and its significant contribution to the professionalization of the industry in Cape Verde.

 

Felix CasadoVisibly moved, he recalled RIU's beginnings on the island of Sal and expressed his deep gratitude to the collaborators who have demonstrated the value of the destination. "Cape Verde is a destination that has changed us as a company," said Casado, highlighting the unique local "Morabeza" (Morabe-ness) that, in his words, has permeated RIU's soul.

 

The 35 awards were distributed across four main categories. In the Environmental Project section, the work of Cape Verde BIOS y Biodiversity Project Association for his dedication to the protection of the Caretta caretta turtle. DesBem Foundation was awarded for her outstanding work in health and childhood through the Children's Health Clinic of Sal Island. A special tribute was paid to Carlos AlmeidaRIU's Human Resources Director in Cape Verde and the chain's longest-serving employee in the country, was recognized for his key role in the company's growth. Finally, key suppliers, local entrepreneurs, and pioneers who have supported RIU since its beginnings in Cape Verde were recognized.

 

The gala, hosted by journalist Susana Rendall, brought together around 150 attendees and reaffirmed the commitment of RIU Hotels & Resorts with sustainable development and tourism growth in Cape Verde, a destination that the chain considers fundamental to its global strategy.
