Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a bilateral meeting in Istanbul that served to reaffirm and strengthen the strategic relationship between the two nations, with a special emphasis on trade and investment.

During the meeting, both leaders analyzed the remarkable growth of the bilateral trade relations in recent years and explored new avenues for expansion in strategic sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and technology. Sánchez highlighted the "strategic importance of Türkiye for many Spanish companies", highlighting the potential of a booming market for Spanish investment.
The summit's agenda also included discussions on security and defense cooperation, an area of mutual interest in a complex geopolitical context. Relations between the two countries were also addressed. Türkiye and the European Union, a recurring theme in which Spain has maintained a position of dialogue and understanding.
On the international front, the situation in the Middle East occupied a central place in the talks. Both leaders agreed on the need to coordinate efforts to achieve significant progress toward peace in the region and advocated for the implementation of the two-state solution.
Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, the Spanish Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for Türkiye's mediating role in the search for a "just and lasting peace" that would put an end to Russia's war of aggression.
Finally, in a demonstration of continued bilateral collaboration, President Sánchez extended a formal invitation to Erdogan to participate in the IV International Conference on Financing for Development, which will be held in Seville from June 30 to July 3. This gesture underscores the willingness of both countries to continue working together in international forums to address global challenges.
