Greater trade and investment cooperation

The Madrid Chamber of Commerce and the Turkish Exporters' Assembly seal an agreement to boost bilateral trade.

In a strategic move to strengthen economic ties between Spain and Turkey, the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Turkish Exporters' Association (TIM).

The signing of this important document took place during the Türkiye-Spain Business Meeting, an event that brought together more than 20 Turkish companies with potential Spanish importers, distributors, and business partners. The meeting, organized jointly by the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, TIM, and the consulting firm ESKZ Global, had the institutional support of the Embassy of Türkiye in Spain.

 

The memorandum of understanding establishes a framework for promoting strong and mutually beneficial business relationships. Initiatives include jointly organizing trade delegation visits, B2B meetings, seminars, and symposia, all with the goal of identifying and capitalizing on new opportunities. business and investment opportunities.

 

To Angel Asensio, president of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, the signing of this MOU is the result of the "conviction that business cooperation between both countries is a driver of growth for our economies." He also highlighted Turkey's strategic value as a key trading partner for Spain, highlighting its geographical position, its vast domestic market of more than 85 million inhabitants, and its economic dynamism, with GDP growth of 2,7% in 2024, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

 

Bilateral trade between Spain and Türkiye reached 17.000 million euros in 2024, with a contribution of approximately €2.700 billion from the Region of Madrid, figures that demonstrate steady growth in recent years. Currently, 738 companies with Spanish capital operate in Turkey, and in 2022, Spain will consolidate its position as the country's leading foreign investor.

 

The Turkish Ambassador to Spain, Exc. Mrs. Nüket Küçükel Ezberci, who also participated in the event, recalled the commitment made at the VIII High Level Meeting between the governments of Spain and Turkey, held in June 2024. At that summit, both countries set as a common objective to overcome the 25.000 billion euros in trade over five years, a commitment that was reflected in the joint declaration signed at the end of the summit.

 

The business day also included sectoral roundtables that addressed key areas such as textiles and clothing, machinery, automotive, food and miningThese discussions facilitated the identification of synergies, the exchange of knowledge, and the exploration of new avenues for business collaboration between the delegations of both countries.
