Madrid Metro is embarking on a new major international project. The company has signed an agreement with the Spanish engineering firm Sener to develop the operational plan for the future Alexandria Metro in Egypt.

This collaboration, valued at €50,000 and lasting five months, seeks to guarantee the efficiency and sustainability of the new Egyptian infrastructure, contributing the vast experience and knowledge of the Madrid underground.
The agreement is part of the first phase of construction of the African Metro, which will consist of 20 stations and nearly 21 kilometers in length. The line, which will run from the historic center of Alexandria to Abu Qir, a residential area in the northeast of the city, will be developed primarily on a viaduct. The experience of the Madrid Metro will be key to applying the main design and construction criteria, taking into account the anticipated demand and the unique characteristics of the network.
This collaboration adds to other international projects in which the Madrid metropolitan company has collaborated.
This project consolidates Metro de Madrid as a global leader in the transport sector, joining other successful international initiatives. Among them, its collaboration with the Delhi Metro, in India, where it advises on the implementation of an innovative freight transport logistics project. The Madrid-based company is also actively involved in the development of the Line 2 of the Lima Metro, in Peru, and in the technological modernization of the metro lines of Lisbon, Portugal.
The Madrid Metro's global reputation is reflected in the constant interest of various foreign delegations. During the first half of this year, the subway received visits from 17 delegations from different parts of the world, including representatives from the metro companies. Santiago de Chile, Medellín and Copenhagen, as well as academic and governmental institutions in countries such as United States, France and Qatar.
