DHL strengthens its business in Latin America amid trade uncertainty

DHL, one of the world's largest logistics companies, is leveraging its integrated expertise to help Latin American businesses face the challenges of an increasingly uncertain global trade environment. Through service adaptation and strategic investment, the company seeks to empower its customers to continue growing, despite geopolitical fluctuations and market dynamics.

In the face of the growing uncertainty in global trade, DHL has decided to boost its business in Latin AmericaThe company has highlighted the crucial role of the region, which is facing an economic situation marked by changing regional alliances, regulatory reforms, and market volatility. In this context, DHL's global experience and strong local presence allow companies to stay agile and take advantage of new opportunities, especially in strategic markets such as Colombia, Brazil and Mexico, where the company is investing significantly.

 

According to Andrew Williams, CEO of DHL Express Americas, there is a Growing demand for e-commerce platforms and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) looking to get to international clients efficiently. In Colombia, these SMEs represent nearly 80% of its customer base. Williams noted that "Our customers tell us that agility and access to reliable logistics are more important than ever. SMEs across the globe America are expanding their global reach, and they rely on our expertise to overcome regulatory hurdles and sustain their operations during turbulent times."

In this sense, DHL Express has strengthened its customs services, has expanded its digital tools and has optimized the last mile delivery to minimize delays. In Colombia, the company has invested more than half a million dollars to open six new points of sale in 2024, and plans to invest $1,3 million in 2025 for new openings, fleet expansion, and solar panel installation.

 

For its part, Tim Robertson, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding Americas, highlighted the flexibility as the key to maintaining resilience in the supply chains"Tariffs and geopolitical shifts are transforming logistics in the Americas, but with proactive planning and multimodal solutions, we help clients balance cost efficiency and transit times," Robertson said. He cited the example of Colombian ports, which have redirected flows to the Pacific to counteract congestion in the Caribbean, leading to an increase in 5% in volume through Buenaventura.

 

Finally, Agustín Croche, CEO of DHL Supply Chain Latin America, stressed that customers are looking for more agile storage and distribution solutionsAs part of this effort, the company opened a distribution center in Mexico that totals more than 210,000 m² to its network in Latin America, in addition to generating more than 2,500 jobs. Croche stated that "to support our customers in dynamic markets, we are promoting initiatives to improve our operational capabilities and develop our logistics specialists. We are bringing the knowledge of DHL's global network to the local market and exporting it."
